We’ve got into a routine with the lambing checks; every 4 hours or so we get in the car and drive down to the field to see if Olive is showing any signs. Last night she was as she has been for the past couple of weeks; large and not looking bothered by anything, so we went to bed.
This morning we have two lambs! It is so exciting we can hardly contain ourselves! Olive gave birth – probably around an hour before we arrived – to healthy lambs, a ram and a ewe. Zita and Zinna seem quite intrigued by them and not at all threatened or worried, so hopefully they will be good mothers in the future. If the follow Olive’s example then there will be no worries.
As the weather looks set to turn we’ve put a pen up for Olive and the lambs (much to the disdain of the other two girls). Now that they are here we need to start thinking about names! We also have to sort out registrations and tags, this is going to be a very steep learning curve!
